| Bill Andrews is the president and creative director of our company. He received his BA in Art in 1978 from the Univ. of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Charles Umlauf, Vincent Mariani, Ralph White and Ed Lindlof among others. At the Univ. of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas Bill studied medical illustration with Bill Winn, Lew Calver, Tom Sims and Scott Barrows among others. He received his MA in Biomedical Communications in 1980. Bill is a Certified Medical Illustrator and a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators.
Bill began his professional career at the Univ. of Arizona Health Science Center at Tucson before moving to Houston, Texas in 1981. He served in varying capacities in the Texas Medical Center, including medical illustrator at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Art Director for the Texas Heart Institute, and Manager of Medical Illustration & Graphic Design Services at the Univ. of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. In 1999, Bill left the Lone Star State to join the faculty of the Dept. of Medical Illustration at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. He is a tenured Associate Professor. In addition, Bill is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Promotion, Education & Behavior from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.
Bill has received numerous professional awards for his artwork and has had works included in juried exhibits around the world. He is an internationally renowned speaker on topics such as the history of medical illustration, color theory, the effect of light on surfaces, optical illusions, and pen & ink. Bill has given numerous workshops, both at home and abroad, on color, line illustration, and digital painting.
He is an active Professional Member of the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI). Bill was President of the AMI in 2001, and he has twice served as a member of the Board of Governors. He has been a Judge for the AMI's Professional Salon. Bill has been Editor-in-Chief of the AMI’s national newsletter and Managing Editor of the Source Book of Medical Illustration. In 1995, he received the Outstanding Service Award from the AMI.
In 1988, Bill became the founding President of the Vesalius Trust, an educational foundation supporting research and education in visual communications for the health sciences. He was recognized for Outstanding Service to the Vesalius Trust in 1995. Bill currently serves on the Board of Directors.
